Don’t Praise your Good Deeds

Amale Sawleh (good deeds) is the only valued possession taken with us in the hereafter. The world and all its contents are meaningless after we leave for our final abode in the Hereafter. It is our good deeds that will be weighed on the scales which is the supreme de facto in the court of Allah Ta’ala. Of course, entry into Jannah still remains the final decision of Allah Ta’ala through His Mercy Only.

One particular hadith comes to light, Nabi (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, “When a person praises his good deeds then he decreases on his thanksgiving and destroys his deeds” (Asatul Khaya).

All praise belongs to Allah Ta’ala and one should thank Allah Alone having made it possible to act on the good. One should not praise oneself having done good actions. In fact, one should thank Allah for having been given the ability and opportunity – in the presence of so many millions of people – the taufeeq to do good. However, one should constantly make dua to increase in many more good deeds.
