Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (Radiyallahu Anhu) replied, “The thing that is causing me difficulty at this moment is the concern of accountability for my sins.”

Hazrat Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) then asked him, “Do you have any desire that I may fulfil?” He said, “At this moment, the thing which I desire is the mercy of my Rabb.”

Hazrat Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) thereafter asked him, “Should I arrange a doctor to treat you?” He replied, “The real doctor (i.e. Allah Ta’ala who has the ability to cure) is the One who has caused me to fall ill.”

Hazrat Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) then asked him, “Should I not stipulate a allowance to be given to you from the public treasury?” He replied, “At this time, I have no need for it.”

Hazrat Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) said, “Perhaps it may be of benefit to your daughters.” Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (Radiyallahu Anhu) said, “Do you fear poverty afflicting my daughters? I have instructed them to recite Surah Waqiah every night, as I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) say, ‘The one who recites Surah Waqiah every night, poverty will never afflict him.’” (Usdul Ghaabah 3/381)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas‘ood (Radiyallahu Anhu) passed away in Madeenah Munawwarah in the year 32 A.H. at the age of 63 and was buried in Jannatul Baqee’. (Usdul Ghaabah vol. 3, pg. 78 and Taareekh Ibni ‘Asaakir vol. 33, pg. 190)

When the news of his demise reached Hazrat Abu Dardaa (Radiyallahu Anhu), he exclaimed, “He has not left behind anyone like him (in calibre).” (Fadhaail-us-Sahaabah – Imaam Ahmad bin Hambal #1540)
